  • MMT is performed to identify and evaluate the integrity of the contractile tissue and the muscle’s capability of providing support and stability.
  • Whenever a muscle(s) or tendon injury is suspected, MMT will indicate specific tender sites from a soft tissue lesion. This provides the practitioner with an accurate location to treat the affected tissue and involved meridian.
  • This workshop will focus on the anatomy, palpation and the fundamentals of MMT for muscles acting on the neck, shoulder, low back, hip and knee.
  • The Hua Tuo Arc is an innovative treatment protocol that will be demonstrated and practiced consisting of needle techniques to motor points of agonist and antagonist muscles and the Huatuojiaji points of the innervating spinal segments. Course Description:

This workshop will discuss referred pain patterns into the channels and collaterals of the hip and lower extremity.

The practitioner will learn to assess the cause of paresthesia and radiculopathic pain patterns in order to differentiate true sciatica from the many different possible causes of “sciatica-like” sensations.

Some of the structures and tissues that may be involved in causing sciatica-like symptoms include: the sacroiliac joint ligaments, the lower lumbar facet joints, the annulus fibrosis, the piriformis, the greater trochanter bursae and others.

In order to reduce local stagnation and remove obstructions in the affected or “diseased” channels and collaterals (jing luo zu zhi), it is imperative for the practitioner to definitively identify the anatomical structure that is causing the referred pain.

This workshop will present orthopedic examinations and postural assessment techniques that will help the practitioner to determine the precise source of the referred pain and therefore develop an appropriate and effective treatment protocol.

Innovative needle techniques and channel point prescriptions will also be demonstrated and discussed.

Course Requirements:

Participants must be a licensed or registered acupuncturist and provide proof of having graduated from an ACAOM accredited or equivalent Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture school.

3rd year students may attend this course and must provide a copy of school ID.

Participants must also provide proof of active license / registration and malpractice insurance.

This course will be cover these imbalances and how they relate to shoulder and upper extremity tendinopathies, elbow sprain and strain, carpal tunnel syndrome and more. The practitioner will learn to accurately differentiate the primary tissue that is causing referred pain such as cervical disc involvement, cervical spondylosis, thoracic outlet syndrome and soft tissue nerve entrapments. With the correct diagnosis of the affected tissue, the practitioner can then accurately apply successful treatment protocols to the affected channels and collaterals (jing luo) for long lasting results.
  • Injuries will be discussed in relation to TCM Patterns e.g. cervical disc degeneration often refers sensation to the shoulder complex frequently seen as Wind-Cold-Damp Obstruction (feng han shi bi) or injury to the rotator cuff muscles will often indicate signs and symptoms of Qi and Blood Stagnation with underlying Qi and Blood Deficiency (qi zhi xue yu, qi xue bu zu).
  • Innovative treatment protocols will be introduced consisting of advanced needle techniques to the involved to the tissue, as well as reinforcing (bu fa) and reducing (xie fa) techniques to the motor and acupuncture points. Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitated stretching, myofascial release and supportive taping techniques are will also be presented and practiced.
