Charlie Roach — C.SMA of the Month (Dec. 2018)

Charlie Roach MS, L.Ac., C.SMA

Tucson Sports Acupuncturist Charlie Roach, MS, L.Ac., C.SMA | SPORTSMEDICINEACUPUNCTURE.COMCharlie Roach is a Tucson sports acupuncturist — certified in Sports Medicine Acupuncture® — whose skills are reaching a wide range of people in his community.

“My practice has always been strongly focused on treating sports injuries and helping athletes perform at their peak, but the SMAC certification allowed me to take this practice to a whole new level. The program improved the quality of care and diversity of treatment strategies I am able to offer the athletes who come to my clinic, and this has made my services more in demand than ever.”

As a direct result of the skills and protocols learned in the SMAC Program, Charlie was offered a position as the team acupuncturist for the Hagens Berman Supermint Pro Women’s Cycling Team.  In addition, he serves as the team acupuncturist for the youth climbing team at Rocks and Ropes in Tucson, keeping these young climbers healthy and injury free so they can grow and perform at their best.

Charlie describes some treatment successes he’s had since completing the program:

Darren Rhodes, an internationally recognized yoga instructor, was facing a career-ending injury, but through my treatments he has returned to full mobility and peak performance, allowing him to continue with his demanding travel, training, and teaching schedule. Another favorite success story is that of Travis McCabe, a professional cyclist with the United Healthcare team, who suffered a severe crash weeks before the National Championships. He was told he would have to skip the race, but using the SMAC diagnostic skills and treatment protocols I learned, we had him back on his bike right away. He came back to win this race and take the 2017 Criterium National Championship title!”
