Eric Stephens — C.SMA of the Month (Sep. 2019)
Eric Stephens, DAOM, L.Ac., C. SMA
Eric Stephens, DAOM, L.Ac., C.SMA, a sports acupuncturist in Portland, Oregon, has been involved in the field of acupuncture and Oriental medicine for over 40 years. He has always sought to find and develop additional strategies to help his patients and expand the range of educational opportunities available to acupuncturists over these many years. Besides co-founding the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, he has taught at many schools and colleges around the country.
One of the biggest insights he is excited to share with both his patients and students is what he has learned in the Sports Medicine Acupuncture Certification (SMAC) program. Eric writes, “One of the most common reasons that patients access acupuncture is for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain, whether or not they are involved in sports. This program gives an acupuncturist the advanced tools to really make a difference in these problems.” Many are the patients who have seen a variety of practitioners, including other acupuncturists, and not received satisfactory help for their issues. The knowledge and techniques that Dr. Stephens has gained from the SMAC program have enabled him to help many of these difficult cases.
Moreover, the information has improved the material he is able to offer when teaching. Whenever he teaches, the information the students are most excited to know is the wisdom that is found in the SMAC program. And when students see what is possible with this advanced assessment and treatment knowledge, there are always some who wisely seek out this program for its comprehensive curriculum.
